Day 7 of our trip

Day 7 started at 7am. On the road by 9am. (I didn't get up till 8:30 haha)
Well Saturday finally came and I was feeling more human then living dead. Our plan was to head up to Fort Collins, two and a half hours north for the family reunion. Most of the other reunions we have attended have had planned activities and requests for sharing of scrapbooks and photo albums. But this one had no plans at all. It was just a come and go, bring your lunch and eat in the park and hang out all day. So since there was not any set start time or ending time we took our time getting to the reunion. All seven of us in the van, my folks, my aunt and uncle, DH, DD, and myself, taking turns cat napping on the way up. None of us had meet anyone from this part of the family. This was the Miller reunion, my grandmother's side of the family. She had eleven brothers and sisters and there are only two still alive. Grandma Arvada lives in northern California and Cecil lives in the Seattle area. Because they are in their 90s they sent lovely letters sharing some of their family stories for us to share at the reunion. There had been quite a bit of electronic communications with Janet the granddaughter of one of my grand's brothers who had writen a family geneology book several months back. She sparked the idea to have this reunion. She is from Utah and then one of my dad's second cousins, whom he had never met came from Austin, Edna. Since we had all had communications with these two wonderful ladies we where looking forward to meeting them. Upon arriving the first person we met was Edna. She emediately thought my Aunt was my mom. Aunt Marci was whereing a t-shirt that read Dallas, Texas on it with big cowboy boots and a 10 gallon on it. The one thing you need to understand about my Aunt is she loves attention. Anyway, We got to meet quite a few distant relatives and finially got to put a face to Janet's writings and voice. We also met a very interesting gentlemen that is an extended very distant third cousin of my Dad's named Jerry, He had just randomly met Janet just the week prior and drove down from North Dakota to attend the reunion. We had an enjoyable day and dinner on the way back to Colorado Springs at Applebees, one of our families' favorite eating out jonts. Then back to the Ranch to set out on the upper deck, with the peace and quiet of the night sky. And that was the end of our seventh day.
Day 7 Lots of family photos, chatting and sharing stories about our families with newly discovered relatives, driving 258 miles, Taking a scenic route through Boulder and Estes Park, never ending bug splats, a few much needed cat naps, 19 bottles of water, a great dinner together at Applebees, and a wonderfully relaxing stargazing evening on the Ranch.
