For Father's Day we took my hubby to the drive-in. We where planning on taking my folks too, but Dad wasn't feeling up to it. So we'll be spending some time with him today. We have been waiting for Shrek 3 to come to the drive in and DH wanted to see Spiderman 3 so when we checked this last thursday and found that they where both playing we just had to take the guys to see them. We enjoyed them both. Here's my critic of them:
Shrek 3 was enjoyable and I'll share the trailer here, but I found it lacking the pace of the first two. If you are a shrek fan you will still enjoy the third, just don't expect it to be better then the prior two.
Spiderman 3 was great. They took the characters deeper and we see a very dark side to the squeaky clean Peter Parker. It goes from 1 on 1, to 3 after the 1, to 1 on 2, and finally to 2 on 2. Since I'm sure most fans have seen this already, this won't spoil anyone's plot line. This one has quite a bit of resolve to it and of course from the previews a wedding ring involved. It's a must go see for the summer so far. DH even says this will be one for our DVD collection.
Just for fun here's my review for the other 3rd movie that we have already seen at the drive-in. Pirates of the Caribean 3!! We loved this one. It's still the same characters of course plus we have Barbosa back in the mix. The great thing is all the characters seem to expande in their development right before our eyes. Elizabeth has matured from the spunky rebellious debutont to a full fledged pirate herself. Jack shows his loony side. And I just love his line when someone (not telling who) says he's mad (doesn't someone always say that to him?)and he replies, "If I wasn't this would probably never work." Will gets some reality snaps and starts to show his true colors that cause him to make ultimate sacrifical choices. The twists and flip flops in the plot (much like the others) is still of the high energy and wonderfully coriagraphed action to keep the best of the short attention spanned youth pleasently ingadged. Even with the downpour of rain we got periodicly throughout the movie the three teens in our car where for the most part speechlessly focused. Enjoy the preview!
