She's Fifteen!!!!

Well here is our now fifteen year old on her birthday. We decided to forgo the cake, icecream, expensive birthday packages, and all the planning and last minute rushing around to get stuff ready. And we opted for her inviting some of her closest friends to go ice skating and hanging out at the mall. After getting lost in the boondocks for about two hours (that was an interesting experience), and finally finding the house to pick up one of them, we where on our way to one of our local malls that has an ice skating rink and a carasel. It's a very large mall so we all stayed together. Jenn is Katy's best friend (and in our opinion almost a corbin copy of her and like a second daughter to us) from her middle school year in the next town over. Jenn and Katy both play the clarinet and meet in band class in middle school. They have kept in touch faithfully this last year even though we now live 30 minutes away and they go to different high school. Jacob and Lucy are fellow band members at the high school here. They have been encouraging and consistant friends for her during the challenges of the freshmen year of high school. Katy has been pretty consistent with her grades, but has found the social drama of teen life to be a bit confussing. One thing we are very proud of her for is her ability to choose good friends to draw close to, and her openess to us about her challenges and victories. She is growing into a wonderfully talented and intelligent young lady. We did get a giant cookie to celebrate and ate dinner at the mall while we waited for 5 o'clock traffic to go down. Then we went back to the ol' casa and they played on the ps2 until around 9pm. The girls where allowed to stayed overnight and David drove Jacob home. We think he probably had enough of girl talk for the day. The girls stayed up most of the night talking and watching movies, to our cat's dismay. When I got up this morning they where all spralled all over our living room floor, reminded me of so many GS sleepovers we use to have in Amarillo. Those where fun (and exhausting), right Leslie!! Anyway, She had a wonderful time and we enjoyed the ease of the celebration.
